"Anubis... like the card....?" she asked, startled, her eyes flicking back to the water a moment before she forced herself to look at him, not the waves.
"Master Horowitz said no one in the city should know. But we're not in the city, and he did give me my cards back..."
Goligan did not look convinced, but for the moment, held his peace.
Najaran reached behind herself, and some of the cards from her deck flew into her waiting hand. She held up one that held an image of what looked like someone had magically thrust a tetanic plate upwards and etched out a rough face. "Like Wall Of Stone."
He watches closely, and doesn't so much as flinch when the cards fly into her hand. He's used to many kinds of magic, and his own staff can be called back to his hands if he needs to do so. He studies the card a moment, head finally tilting.
"So there is a card called Anubis." His words are reflective, he can tell there is more magic here than her flourish, but he's never seen a magic deck before. "You will have to forgive my ignorance, my friend, but I don't understand the importance of my name being the same as one used in a deck of cards."
She looked utterly stunned for a long moment. She had thought it was obvious, but whoever had ever called a book a deck of cards like...like... like it was a toy or something.
"I'm a Cepter..." she said slowly as if not sure he was quite right in the head.
"Gooligan would be correct." Granted, he's not certain who this Culdra is, but he can guess that it's the name given locally to the creator of worlds. Having been to many realms when he was in service to the Evil Talpa, it seemed second nature to him.
Anubis gives a gentle smile, shoulders wiggling slightly as he holds back a slight chuckle.
"I'm pleased to be your first introduction. I'm looking forward to learning more during my journey here." He glances out at the ocean, the rings on his sounding staff jingling faintly as he feels the power of the Ancients within it encourage him.
He looks back from the waters as she and Gooligan start to banter and he just smirks gently.
"I look forward to another opportunity to speak with Mast Horowitz. If there's trouble, I only hope I can be of some assistance. I take it these Black Cepters are precisely that."
Najaran nodded. "We summon things from the cards. But Gooligan is right. It is too dangerous to ask a non-cepter for help, no matter how much we need it. I'm sorry."
"NAJARAN!" he scolded, flying free of her hand to land point down on her head.
"I'm sorry! OW! What did I do wrong this time?" she asked, catching hold of him again.
"Think before you speak, about what you are going to say."
He watches Gooligan fly out of her hand and give her a solid smack on the head. Privately, he's glad the Staff of the Ancients doesn't take such measures.
"I also use magic. While I may be unfamiliar with how it works here, I am willing to lend my skills in whatever way is needed. The spirits that guide me have made their wishes known, when the staff rang earlier. I would not have agreed to follow you to the beach, otherwise."
"I still would like to travel with you, for a time. If trouble occurs, we can cross that bridge." The tone of his voice suddenly drops, his face severe. "I assure you, I will not be a liability if there is a fight."
"That will be up to Master Horowitz," Gooligan said, firmly.
NAjaran sulked a bit. "Ganz and Joquin and Alta weren't in the way, you know," she grumped. "They did more than I did in bisteam, and none of them were Cepters."
"True..." Gooligan admitted, reluctantly.
"Lots of my friends haven't been Cepters, that doesn't mean people can't help," she said, taking that as encouragement. "Everyone has their own strengths and abilities!"
Anubis goes still, realizing that the argument has been rather turned on its head. He's not quite certain what to make of it, but it sounds like his presence might be tolerated for a bit.
"Very well, I will ask Master Horowitz when he returns. Until then, let's walk as friends." He is still trying to get used to that word, but it's been so long since he had friends, it's nice to say.
At that, she earns a warm chuckle from Anubis as he leans slightly on his staff with a smile.
"It's very....flavorful. Unfortunately, cooking is not one of my strong suits, so I stick to simpler meals, like the rice." Perhaps for the better, he has a feeling she'd be asking him to make all kinds of meals if he did. She seemed only too happy for his rice earlier.

"I am - new to these parts." He hopes that helps her understand his lack of understanding.

"New to...the world?" Najaran asked, stunned.
"Multiverse?" Gooligan ventured. "Remember what Mistress Grubel said. Culdra created many worlds, not just this one, Najaran."

"You need all the training and discipline you can get, Najaran!"
She pouted. "I've been handling the Black Cepters alright so far."
"Is that why Zenith had to bail you out in Bisteam?" he asked, brows arching.
She winced. "We... helped each other out...." she muttered.

She sweat beaded a little. "Well it's too late for that, so we might as well tell him, he wants to help."
"Najaran, they're Cepters...."
She winced and her shoulders slumped. She nodded. "I just... he almost feels like a Cepter. But you're right, Golligan..." she said, softly.

Everything they are using is an actual card from the games and/or manga.
